Short facts about the occurrence of cancer in Bremen

At the end of 2020, there were 680,130 inhabitants in the state of Bremen, of which 566,573 lived in the city of Bremen and 113,557 in Bremerhaven.

Each year, about 4,200 inhabitants of Bremen are newly diagnosed with cancer. About 7,700 people die each year in the state of Bremen. Approximately a quarter of these deaths are due to cancer. Cancer is thus the second most common cause of death.

The above data refer to persons who were residents in the state of Bremen at the time of the initial diagnosis of the tumor or death. For the clinical cancer registration, there will be future analyses of the treatment and the courses of diseases that refer to Bremen as the place of treatment regardless of the place of residence.
