Data Set

The data set collected by the cancer registry corresponds to the uniform basic oncology data set of the Working Group of German Tumor Centers and the Society of Epidemiological Cancer Registries in Germany as well as the platform § 65c, in short “oBDS” with the supplementary organ-specific modules. In addition to information about the person and the diagnosis, detailed data about the therapy and the course of the disease are also requested in this data set.

oBDS (short form)
  • Name
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Sex
  • Health insurance provider with insurance number

There are additional data catalogs for the following cancer types:

Organ-specific modules
  • Rectum: Distance data to tumor site, resection margins and mesorectal fascia
  • Rectum: Quality of the TME preparation
  • Rectum: Preoperative marking of the stromal position
  • Rectum: Anastomotic insufficiency
  • Type of the intervention and ASA classification on the patient’s health status
  • Mutation of the K-ras oncogene
  • Date of social service contact and study recruitment

To correctly assign and process the reports in the cancer registry, information about the person, the reporting institution as well as minimum data about the tumor are always required. If possible, all details of the data catalog associated with the reason for reporting (diagnosis, therapy, course of disease, organ-specific modules)—as far as applicable and carried out under the responsibility of the reporting institution—must be filled in completely (go directly to the mandatory data).

To enable digital reporting and processing of the data, clinical cancer registries have agreed upon standards for the transmission of information. Details can be found here.

The third edition of the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology (ICD-O-3) serves as a coding aid. It is published by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices and can be accessed online here. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and the Operations and Procedure Code (OPS) can also be downloaded here.
